7 Reasons To Ski at Castle Mountain Resort
If you haven’t yet skied/snowboarded at Castle Mountain Resort, you should! Here are 7 reasons to love Castle Mountain.
It’s Close to Calgary
Castle Mountain Resort is located in Southwest Alberta, in the Rocky Mountains. It’s about 1 hour from Pincher Creek, 1 1/2 hours from Lethbridge, and depending on where you live in Calgary, it’s 2 – 3 hours away. Which means you can get to the hill just in time for pizza on Friday night, and home in good time on Sunday even after a full weekend of skiing! Or it also means you’re close enough to head there just for the day!
The Down To Earth Vibe
Castle Mountain Resort is owned by people who love to ski, and you can feel this in the down-to earth vibe at the resort. There’s a strong sense of community here that you can feel by how amazing the staff is. The staff is accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and have a love for Castle that you can hear and feel when they talk to you…every time, and I mean every time, as we got onto a lift, the chair lift operators wished you a fun time!
It’s Alberta’s Best Kept Ski Secret
One of the things we loved most about Castle Mountain Resort was the fact that it wasn’t overcrowded. There was plenty of space to ski and we were able to jump right onto lifts with little to no wait. This made for a pretty chill ski day!
It’s a Great Spot To Learn How To Ski
Castle Mountain is a fantastic hill to learn how to ski on…it’s the best we’ve encountered yet! For new skiers/snowboarders there is a very beginner hill with a Magic Carpet, which is perfect for little kids and people who have never skied before. And as one gets more comfortable and is ready to move up, there is the Beginner Zone/Progression Park, also known as the ‘Green Chair’. This zone is located at the base of the hill, has a short chair lift ride that kids can easily access all on their own, and takes you to 3 gentle and short runs. This is where 2 of my kids spent most of the time at the hill. It was great for building confidence.
The Lessons are Great!
On our recent visit we signed all 3 of our kids up for lessons. Even though we’ve skied before, we always like to give the kids a little refresher before they hit the big slopes. The instructors are knowledgeable and fun, so my kids really enjoyed their lessons. By the end of our ski weekend our nervous skiers were skiing the progression park hills on their own and felt comfortable enough to head up the Huckleberry chair.
There’s Something for All Levels Here
Whether you’re a person who has never skied before, or you’re an expert skier or a person who loves Cat Skiing, Castle Mountain has something for everyone. Check out their trail maps here.
T-Bar Pub & Grub
Don’t forget the food! If you want a great lunch or dinner experience right on the hill, you should try the T-Bar Pub & Grub. This family friendly pub has the MOST amazing pizza! The Sideshow Pizza is a must-order…we ordered it 2 nights in a row. The vibe in this place is awesome, toques and plaid shirts everywhere you look.
